Pat testing hse
The health and safety executive HSE has provided information regarding portable appliance testing.
You can download an executive summary on the subject from the hse website. Portable appliance testing has become necessary due to British legislation from a number of regulations. The Health and Safety at work act, The Electricity at Work regs and PUWER.

It is seen that the employer is responsible for providing a safe working environment for his employees and this includes the regular inspection of portable electrical appliances.
A PAT test will include a visual inspection of the appliance and connecting lead, a electrical test which will analyse the resistances of the contacts.
The piece of equipment will be logged into a report and a pass sticker will be attached to the piece of equipment.
